Universe 0 — Participatory Art Project for TEDxBassano del Grappa (2021)

Universe 0 is a participatory art project conceived by Riccardo Rizzetto for the 2021 edition of TEDxBassano del Grappa.
The work invited visitors to contribute words, fragments, and reflections — forming a collective vocabulary that gradually became a new territory of shared meaning.

At its core, Universe 0 questions how many interpretations a single word can contain, and what happens when we stretch the boundaries of definition to make space for difference.
The project transforms the act of writing and contributing into a performative gesture of belonging: each participant adds a trace, and in doing so, extends the perimeter of the collective ground.

The “0” of the title refers to a beginning that is not absolute but relational — a zero point from which multiplicity can emerge.
Rather than proposing a single narrative, Universe 0 constructs a constellation of meanings in flux, where every contribution alters the balance of the whole.
This process mirrors the construction of a common ground that is constantly renegotiated — fragile yet generative, open to revision and reinvention.

Through this participatory structure, Universe 0 explores language as both material and social field: a space where words can act as meeting points, bridges, or even conflicts to be embraced.
Each written fragment becomes an element of an evolving landscape — a collective topography of voices, gestures, and desires.

In this sense, the project functions as a living archive of coexistence.
The multitude of inputs is not an obstacle but the foundation of the work itself.
Out of plurality, Universe 0 forges unity: a temporary, porous ground from which to imagine other possible futures together.

The installation and its process unfolded publicly during TEDxBassano del Grappa 2021, transforming the event’s collective energy into a visual and linguistic ecosystem — a reminder that every universe begins with connection.

A post-disciplinary, research-based practice
