Communal Matters (spatial research agency)

Communal Matters is a spatial research agency co-founded by Riccardo Rizzetto and Alessandro Giovanni Gatti.

The platform operates across architecture, curatorial practice and collective spatial research, developing projects, walkshops and public programmes that explore how human and more-than-human communities shape the environments they inhabit.

Through fieldwork, conversations and situated methodologies, Communal Matters investigates the relationships between ecology, infrastructure and collective life.

Communal Matters develops projects that operate between research and spatial practice, engaging architecture as a tool to investigate social, environmental and territorial transformations.

Its work takes the form of walkshops, public programmes, conversations and collaborative research initiatives developed with cultural institutions, local communities and research organisations.

Rather than producing fixed representations of place, Communal Matters creates formats for collective inquiry that reveal how spaces are continuously negotiated, imagined and reconfigured.

Selected initiatives include:

Super-imposti: Monte Amiata and the Gallaratese, a collective walkshop developed for Milano Arch Week 2025.

After Olivetti: Re-reimagining the Idea of Community, a public panel at Biennale Architettura 2025.
