Can art move us to care, feel, and act in response to the suffering of others?
Inspired by Šejla Kamerić’s 1395 Days Without Red (2011), produced by Artangel, In Each Other’s View proposes an alternative mode of witnessing — one grounded not in graphic representation, but in embodied resonance.
At the centre of the exhibition stands “Nothing Holds but Breath”, a collaborative installation by Ana Čvorović and Riccardo Rizzetto, with a soundscape in collaboration with Matthew Faulkner.
The work unsettles the boundaries between protection and exposure, intimacy and violence, private and public space.
Bullet-shaped forms pierce layers of reclaimed duvets — materials that recall both domestic softness and the improvised protections used during the Sarajevo siege to shield civilians from sniper fire.
Encased within transparent shells, displaced everyday objects sit suspended: stripped of function yet charged with residual memory.
Set within a circular wooden structure, the installation forms an acoustic container where echoes of Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique are looped, stretched, and dislocated. This fractured soundscape produces a rhythm of interruption and return — a sonic tension between agency and confinement, between breathing and holding one’s breath.
Nothing Holds but Breath resists narrative resolution. Instead, it invites a form of listening that acknowledges opacity — the right not to be fully understood — as an ethical stance. Through its material and sonic language, the work becomes an act of care that honours fragility, both human and spatial, as conditions of shared existence.
